Christmas is almost upon us and you need to make an important decision…
Are you Cindy Lou Who – or are you THE GRINCH?
For most of us, the holidays are an insane mix of forced time with family we rarely see, too many bills and insurmountable stress at work with a dab of pretty, little lights and dessert for good measure. It is overwhelming and passes in the blink of an eye.
But what about the people in our community who are struggling with mental health issues or those who have no place to call home? What about the elderly who have no family to visit or the parents who are going without so that their children can have gifts to open Christmas morning? How can YOU help someone less fortunate this season?
The answer is simple; YOU can be kind.
You can offer a warm beverage to someone standing outside at Tim Hortons. You can send a Christmas card in the mail – like the good ol’ days (NOPE – this year Canada Post recommends e-cards!). You can shovel for your neighbour. You can forego coffee for two weeks and donate the money to a charity – for me, it feels good to sacrifice in order to gift it away to someone in need. It is truly better to give than receive
Long story short – it’s the small things that mean the most. It doesn’t have to be some GRAND gesture; you can actually change someone’s day with simply a smile.
We need to do better. The world desperately needs more love and kindness and grace. My advice today is to try it – you won’t be disappointed. Happy Holidays – stay safe and warm and blessed.
