“Dating” is not easy…but dating online – is even more complicated.
You attempt to open up with personal info while still trying to safeguard your privacy. You try to appear confident and strong while feeling exceptionally vulnerable. You realize that not everything is what it seems yet still look to see the best in others. You don’t want to become jaded after countless rejections and failed relationships – but you can’t afford be naïve either. These are some very fine lines to tread.
If you have been following my article, you know that my relationship with Mike started in 2019. We first ‘met’ on Plenty of Fish and talked for years until finally meeting in 2022 once the borders reopened following Covid. It has been five years and I am STILL getting to know him. We are STILL navigating understanding each other’s expectations, the newness of exclusive dating and being accountable to someone else. It’s a rollercoaster and it’s complicated – but it’s amazing.
This was the first year that I ever received flowers at work on Valentine’s Day. While this may not seem earth-shattering to some people, it was huge to me. Mike always tries to make me feel special, cherished – wanted and needed. It’s a foreign feeling.
Despite the struggles we face living in different countries and being apart, we are taking it day by day and enjoying the ride. It’s been unexpected and stressful and fabulous. My advice today – give things a chance because you just never know.
