So…I ended my last article stating that Mike and I had purchased rings – and we are loving it! They are a tangible and visible sign of our commitment to this relationship.
Meeting online definitely had people in our lives doubting the authenticity of our connection. Is it real? Is it temporary?
Yes. It’s real. It is the most ‘real’ I have ever felt. I’m not afraid to be myself and I accept Mike unconditionally. We are both flawed and we are both broken. The key is accepting that and moving forward together. Our relationship is not temporary – soon it will be five years that we have been talking! The fact that we did NOT meet in person for over three years is ironically what has probably made this work. We didn’t fizzle out. We didn’t let our physical relationship define our emotional connection. I love that about us. It’s so meaningful and deep and priceless.
So – at 48 are we too old for ‘promise rings’? HECK no. We bought matching wood and opal rings that are very simple. His name is engraved in mine – and mine in his. They mean more to us than any overpriced, expensive diamond ring ever could.
We aren’t engaged. We aren’t married. But we are committed to “us”…and we are not afraid to let everyone know. It’s a HUGE step. It’s a special promise…and the start of what I’m sure will be an amazing journey together.
My advice today? Just when you think the rain will never end…the sun inevitably shines through. Keep searching online and stay hopeful. Love will find you.
