The Online Era – Article – 7

Let’s talk for a moment about meeting new people online and what to expect. You can FULLY expect to meet the following: Creeps. Liars. Cheaters. Fakes. Phonies. Crazies. You should plan on meeting a plethora of these – I promise there is no shortage!
Don’t let people fool you – dating online is not always fun. I’ve had a close ‘friend’ pose as a stranger. I’ve had wives message me – wives of men that claimed to be “single”. I’ve even had some of my photos stolen and used to set up fraudulent profiles.
But – you will also meet some truly good people that have been burned in the past and are looking to start over. These people have battle wounds and baggage. They shy away from being vulnerable. They build walls that seem insurmountable. My friend Mike is one of these people. The scars his ex left on him run very deep. He was used and taken advantage of and had never known real love. His pain was her pleasure. Sadly, she is forever involved in his life as they share children – and this will never change.
How did he trust me after being hurt? How did I help him heal?
Well, it started simply by talking. A lot. By being open and honest. It continued by meeting in person and offering genuine friendship. It has since flourished into something magical. The bond we share is unmatched. Two damaged and broken beings that have found solace and serenity with one another. He is truly my missing piece, my soulmate, my person. We made it ‘official’ in August and since have met each other’s children. Every single day we grow closer and I am feeling so blessed this holiday season.
My advice today? Jump. Take that leap of faith. Never give up on love. The universe has plans for you – someone special is waiting. What’s meant to be – will always be.
