You’ve met someone interesting. You’ve conversed at length via text and phone and you are ready to meet in person.

Here are some helpful tips regarding SAFETY…

  • Meet somewhere neutral. A public place is always best! Avoid going to their private residence too soon and hold off on giving out your home address.
  • Be sure to tell a friend where you are going and when you will be home. (Don’t forget to check in with them so they know that you are safe!)
  • Ask your friends if they know the person. If you live in a small town – often you may hear things that change your mind about meeting.
  • If you have a pic of them, save it along with their cell number. Share it with someone you trust.
  • Creep them on social media or do a quick background check online.
  • Video chat PRIOR to meeting in person. Even a quick video chat is better than walking in blind. At least this way – you know that they are real.
  • Minimize alcohol. Keep your drink where you can see it AT ALL TIMES!

In my experience, these are just a few helpful tips to staying safe. Unfortunately, not everyone you will meet has good intentions. With a little effort, you can weed them out.

Before meeting Mike, I did a background check for about $25. It contained info about his friends/family and a LOT of historical data. We all have baggage, right? But doing this confirmed that he was being honest and open and gave me peace of mind.

My advice today? Trust your instincts. If it feels wrong – it probably is.
