There was less than two weeks go before “Just A Purdy Face” was set open. It was a very progressive past week as the spa room had been completed, painting was done and the flooring installed. The week to come had the expected arrival and installation of the mirrors, sinks, and chairs. With the steady pace of the store getting ready, there were still two chairs to fill to round out the staff. It’s now bright and early on a Saturday. But no day off for Jasmine. She awoke to a monsoon downpour. She wasn’t over thrilled to going to the store to conduct an interview. She grabbed her umbrella and dashed out to meet Nelson and Antoinnette who was picking her up.
Meanwhile with the rain pounding down, Renata Simons exited her cab ride to the store. She paid the meter, but unfortunately, she was almost 15 minutes early for her interview. There was nowhere to stay dry so she huddled up against the outside of the building under a canopy. Unbeknownst to her, a little help pulled up in a black sports car. The passenger window opened a crack and a gentleman with a heavy accented voice yelled out to her.
Gentleman: “You look a little damp? Are you waiting for someone?”
Renata: “I have an interview at 9 AM, I am a little early though.”
Gentleman: “I was hoping to speak to the manager myself about a job, which is why I’m here. You’re welcome to sit in my car and stay dry.”
Renata: “I don’t know you. As she said with a shy smile, “But I’m getting soaked to the skin. So… Ohhh… Ohhh… I suppose.”
Gentleman: “Let’s get you inside the car then.”
Renata: “Thank you so much. I’m Renata by the way.”
Gentleman: “My name is Oleg Travolofsky.”
Renata: “That’s quite a name. You’re a hairdresser as well I presume?”
Oleg: “Well… Not exactly. I am an accomplished barber and have been looking for a job for a month now. I am just a little unsure walking in cold asking for a job.”
Renata: “It’s worth a shot I suppose. My philosophy is to just go in with confidence.”
It didn’t take long for Nelson’s black suburban to pull up in front of the store. Jasmine emerged from the back seat to unlock the door to the spa and set things up for the upcoming interview.
Renata: “I think that could be my future boss. I think it’s safe to say, that’s my cue.”
Oleg: “I wish you luck, but first let me get the passenger door for you.”
Oleg stepped out of the car only to be met with a gust of wind blowing off his hat. It tumbled down the street with him chasing it down. Renata jumped out and followed right behind him to help him catch up to his hat. She darted ahead of him and was fortunate to pluck the hat out of a deep puddle. Oleg was very appreciative of Renata’s efforts.
Oleg: “Now we’re both soaked to the skin,” as he remarked with a sophisticated smile.
Renata: “At least your interview isn’t immediate. I’m a drenched mess right now!”
Oleg: “I think I will come back on a sunny day. I Hope your interview goes well.”
Renata: “Thanks so much again for letting me sit in your car. Hey… You never know… Perhaps we will work together someday.”
