Here we are. Its spring time again and lots of open water to fish. The hunt for early season giants is on. Whether it be toothy critters like pike and walleye orJeremy wearing a ball cap and sunglasses on his boat holding up a musky. The musky is facing the camera with it's mouth wide open. hungry spring Lakers, spec’s and football size bass its a fun time of year to target these monsters. The key to finding these fish in spring is to locate the warmest water in the system. Naturally this will mainly occur in shallow bays. But not all shallow bays are created equal. Look for bays that have a darker bottom and since northwest winds are prevalent during spring, bays on the northwest side of the lake tend to warm first. Now that you have found the fish, you need to feed them accordingly. Using slower presentations are key whether its plastics or hard baits. Typically a small to medium size jerkbait presented with long pauses in between works well or a slow roll with a plastic swimbait of your choice. Both those presentations will do well for most species. So get out there, be safe and be sure to check the regulations for your area before pursuing your hunt.
