It’s mid summer folks and water temps are starting to peak and so is the fishes metabolism. What does that mean?

It means they require more food to sustain themselves. My ultimate favourite tactic for catching Musky is the use of a topwater bait. With the higher water temps these musky will chase down a bait faster than you could ever move it, remember that when your working your baits, but let’s concentrate on top water presentations. You have 3 main style of topwater baits. 1. Walk the dog, 2. Prop bait and 3rd is a creeper style bait. All are effective in the right conditions. Prop bait and creeper style baits are easier to present with a strait reel. However walking the dog takes some practice but is still fairly easy. I find the fishes mood mostly dictates which bait I use. One of the most effective ways to use a topwater is to use it when there is some wind and a little chop on the water. Most people assume that topwater baits only work when the water is flat calm or early and late in the day but that is the furthest from the truth. Truth is, they work even better in stirred up conditions, especially on pressured fish that have been seeing all the run of the mill bucktails and jerkbaits all day. Throw them a topwater that rides the waves and look out.  Fish Cowboyz Out!
