A month had passed since the grand opening of Just A Purdy Face, and the team had found their rhythm in their respective roles with remarkable synergy, and a well-established flow. While the salon hummed with its usual cadence, the team deeply focused on their clients’ transformations, Genevieve, Antoinnette’s granddaughter, entered with quiet assurance, her arrival a subtle yet distinct shift in the room’s established harmony, like a single, poised note. Genevieve’s arrival was unannounced, a surprise, given she hadn’t spoken to Jasmine since her wedding hairstyle had been pinned into place back in June, much less seen her grandmother’s salon. She settled into her seat, her gaze sweeping the salon with quiet awe before lingering on Jasmine. Though she waited with practiced calm, the sunlight catching her grandmother’s bracelet seemed to shimmer with a quiet knowing, as if it recognized the urgency of the
news she’d come to share.
Jasmine: “Oh wow… What a surprise! It’s great to see you again. How is married life treating you?”
Genevieve: “Beyond awesome, and thank you! I see you’re doing quite well with the salon.”
Jasmine: “Yes, it’s been an amazing journey so far.. In fact, I’m still shocked that this salon is even a ‘thing’. I guess, I have you to thank for all this.”
Genevieve: “Oh? …Honestly, I didn’t really do anything special.”
Jasmine: “To be fair, if you hadn’t hired me for your wedding, I’d never have met your grandmother — and none of this would exist. But heads-up, if you’re here to see her: she’s out and not expected back today.”
Genevieve: “You twisted my arm, though I might’ve nudged it a little,” she giggled, leaning forward. “But truthfully? I came to see you.”
Jasmine: “Oh! Got it. So… are we doing your nails today?” She laughed, already reaching for her tools. “Luckily, my next appointment’s not till later, you picked the perfect time.”
Genevieve: “Yes, as a matter of fact, they do, but that’s not the real reason. Grandma told me to see you about an upcoming event that My boutique, Lyrics on Lachaumiere, is putting on next month.”
Jasmine: “That sounds intriguing. How can I help you?”
Genevieve: “Well… It’s not just you. I would actually require the talents of your entire team.”
Jasmine: “Um… Wow… Ok… You really took me by surprise. Give me just a second,” Jasmine said, turning to the rest of the team. “Everyone, I’d like you to meet Genevieve, Antoinnette’s granddaughter. If she hadn’t believed in me, way back then, feels like a lifetime now, and taken a chance on me for her wedding… well, strange as life can be, this salon wouldn’t be here. Not a single chair, mirror, or dream.
Mindy: “My name is Mindy. Nice to meet you.”
Dio: “Hola, I am Dio Alvarez.”
Renata: “Heya, I’m Renata.”
Oleg: “Oleg. Charmed.”
Genevieve: “It’s such a pleasure to finally meet you all. My grandmother’s stories about each of you, your creativity, your passion, made me feel like I knew you long before today. That’s why I’m here: I’d love for Just A Purdy Face, as a full team, to handle hair and makeup for a fashion show fundraiser I’m hosting next month. I also felt it really important to me to include family, my grandmother, my hero as well as the family she has created right here.”
Mindy: “Oh wow! That sounds so exciting.”
Dio: “I love watching fashion on the runway.”
Renata: “Wow, what a cool way to sell the name.”
Oleg: “I’m not sure how I can fit into this, but please proceed.”
Jasmine: “Well, Genevieve, you’ve certainly got their attention,” Jasmine said, her smile widening as she gestured to the team. “Why don’t you walk us
through the details? Take your time, my protégé Tess should be here any minute for her training, and I’d love for her to hear this too. Consider her part of the family.”
Genevieve: “Well… I am even more excited now as I see everyone’s enthusiasm, which is quite contagious. Thank you. I will certainly walk you through the details. Here is my vision…”
